First, and foremost, thank you for your patience as we navigate through this unprecedented situation with COVID-19. As we go through these difficult times, it will be important that we work and communicate together to ensure the safety of our community and all of our members. Given the constantly evolving nature of this topic, please know that we may be required to adjust our plans. You will be notified of any changes when and if they occur.

York CSD Students, Staff, and Community:

In consultation with the Livingston County Department of Health, Livingston County Officials, and the GVEP superintendents, we believe that it is in the best interest of public health that we act swiftly, even though there has not been a confirmed case of COVID-19 in our community or county. This follows the action earlier taken to declare a State of Emergency for Livingston

Effective Monday, March 16th York Central Schools will be closed until further notice. This includes ALL school activities, sports and outside activities that may be scheduled on campus.

There will be more information and plans coming out in the days to come and throughout the school closure. For now, please understand that our main goal is to support the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families.

We are extremely committed to the education of all our students; however, in these unprecedented times, we must first take care of each other and our most vulnerable community members.

Please take care of one another and yourself.

Dear YCS Community and Families,

We certainly are living through an unprecedented public health concern. Given the concerns regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19), YCS continues to actively monitor the latest information available from the Center for Disease Control, NYS and Livingston County Departments of Health, as well as NYS Department of Education.

While our goal is to keep schools open and provide a safe place for learning, it is important that you prepare for the unfortunate possibility of temporary school closing. Should there be a confirmed case in our school district, we would close for a minimum of 24 hours per the Department of Health and State Education Department directives. Once the disinfection occurs, along with an assessment of exposure, a determination will be made when school can be resumed.

In situations like these, rumors may cause unnecessary reactions and panic. The best way to combat fear is with facts. For the latest guidance and links to official information sources, please visit our district website.

Family Action Steps

There are a number of steps you and your children can take to reduce the spread of illness, including COVID-19, according to the State Department of Health:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

District Action Steps

  • We will follow Livingston County Health Department’s recommendations regarding large group gatherings, this includes field trips during the school day
  • Cleaning staff will clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces, such as desks, doorknobs, light switches, handrails, and instructional materials
  • Teachers are preparing for continued instruction outside of the classroom
  • Food Services are implementing recommendations from the Department of Health regarding food safety (ie: eliminating self-serve options in the cafeteria)
  • Frequent and ongoing communication through district website and app
  • Event status updates
