Meet Genevieve Moulton - Third Grade teacher.
Welcome to the Golden Knights family!
"I am a teacher because I love learning and exploring. I love to share my passion for knowledge with my students and encourage them to ask questions and be curious!"

Meet Hailie George - Kindergarten teacher.
Welcome to the Golden Knight Family!
"I chose education because I love to see progress in people. It's so fun to see younger kids grow into who they are and in a small district like York, it's so easily evident!"

The York Central School buses are clean and shiny and ready to roll tomorrow morning! The York Transportation crew is ready to greet your student for the start of the 2024-2025 school year!
The first and very important point of contact that a York student has is with his or her bus driver.
No one is more proud of their role in the YCS family than Transportation Supervisor Tracey Proctor.
She is proud of each and every one of the drivers and collectively, she says they are an experienced, great crew who takes their jobs very seriously. Mrs. Proctor has 32 years of school transportation experience, having joined the Golden Knights family in 2021 after 29 years of service at Wayland-Cohocton Central School.
You may think that the Transportation Department was on summer recess like the students but that is not so. YCS bus drivers transported a number of our students to several off-campus programs throughout the summer. They also provided transportation to students attending the YMCA Recreation program on our campus. Starting in August, the buses were transporting student athletes to practices at Pavilion CSD.
Inside the bays, Mechanics Larry Holbrook and Joe Semmel spent the summer performing annual maintenance on the bus fleet. Mr. Holbrook has 21 years of experience and Joe came to YCS two years ago from New York State Department of Transportation. DOT inspects each school bus twice a year. Both say that school buses are among the safest vehicles on the road.
Mrs. Proctor says being a person who enjoys children is a must for the job of school bus driver. She says her drivers truly enjoy their jobs and the relationships they build with their students. Bus driver Ron Bullard says the start of the school year is a good time to get to know the students and establish boundaries.
York Transportation has a new electric vehicle within the fleet- a Kia EV 9. The vehicle is used for individual runs to off campus schools. It operates for around 300 miles on a charge.
Thank you to our York Transportation Department for safely transporting our students every day!

York Elementary PTO has a great idea!
Chalk the front sidewalk with a fun picture and/or message to the staff!
York ES PTO will have chalk available today during the hours of school supply drop off and meet your teacher times. Parents and students - please leave a message for YCS staff!
What a great way to welcome the staff back to school! Thank you York Elementary School PTO!

Meet Elizabeth "Liz" Miller - Middle/High School Art techer.
Welcome to the Golden Knight Family!
"My name is Liz Miller and I am your new Middle/High School Art teacher. I grew up in this area and went to school in Pavilion. I always had quality teachers who cared a lot about me, gave me a lot of opportunities, and showed me how to become a part of my school community.
That feeling of community in school led me to become a teacher who wanted to make students feel the same way! Throughout my career, I have looked for a district that felt like home where I felt I could dig my feet in and give my students the same time and care I had received. After a while, I came to feel that maybe the place that feels most like home IS home! It is a great honor to become a part of the York family; I cannot wait to meet my students and wear purple and gold again.

Meet Alex Flint - Middle/High School Chemistry teacher.
"I teach because I am consistently inspired by the inquisitive nature and relentless determination of students.
Helping foster growth in young people and working with students to sharpen skills that will help them in the next phase of life is truly a joy."

All we can say is WOW! Our school buildings and campus look fantastic thanks to the York Buildings & Grounds Department.
This crew knows how to get the job done! While our buildings were quiet without instruction going on, you still could have heard a buzz and that was the sound of this crew working like bees this summer.
Hats off to Buildings and Ground Supervisor TJ Gullo and his department on a job well done! We are ready to open the doors to our staff on Tuesday and students on Wednesday!

Our outstanding York Tech Department updated over 600 tablets this summer!
Their amazing three-person crew is now working on distributing the tablets to students
for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
Thank you to our Technology Director Christine LaGeorge who also juggled many other important projects on our network this summer, and Computer Techs Matthew Woelffer, and Jacob Purdy for their efforts this summer and throughout the school year.

Attention YCS Families!
Please check your email - we sent you the annual paperwork for your review and response.
If you prefer a hard copy of the paperwork and handbook, please contact Ms. Koch in the Elementary School office at 585-243-1730 Ext. 2146 and Ms. Koronas in the Middle/High School office 585-243-1730 Ext. 2217.
We thank you for your cooperation and look forward to seeing your students next Wednesday.

Students and their families returned to YCS on Wednesday night for Grade 6 and Freshman Orientations.
Middle/High School staff greeted them at the lobby of the auditorium and Principal Mrs. Lindsey Peet welcomed them to the 2024-2025 school year.
The Tech Department distributed the Chromebooks and students went to their lockers and talked with some of their teachers. It was good to see our grade six and Freshman students!

We had a celebration today....sort of... for our coworker Tom Hungerford, who at 2:30 p.m. today became officially retired!
Tom came to the York Golden Knight family three years ago to work in our Buildings and Grounds Department. Before that, Tom had been in the Maintenance Department at Kraft Foods in Avon for 30 years.
Tom is a happy guy and the best kind of coworker - we wish him the very best in retirement!

We are very excited to start the 2024-2025 school year.
We share many communications with our YCS families throughout the year.

Chromebooks will be issued to students this week.

This week we welcomed our new teachers to the York Golden Knights family. They spent three days on campus meeting other staff members, setting up their classrooms, and learning about our school and community.
Please join us in welcoming M/H School Art teacher Liz Miller, M/H School ELA teacher Hannah Smith, M/H School Chemistry teacher Alex Flint, Kindergarten teacher Hailie George, and Third Grade teacher Genevieve Moulton to YCS.

When students return to school in two weeks, they will find a new design on the floor connecting the fifth grade and middle school hallways.
Welcome to our new sensory path...
Occupational Therapist Erin Stiles and Physical Therapist Peggy Torpey were at school today designing the sensory path.
We know many students will enjoy a couple of moments of fun movement between their classes!
