Avon Lions Club members brought their SEE (Screening Eyes Early) detection program to York Elementary School. This valuable program screens children for vision problems that can lead to amblyopia (known as Lazy Eye).
Students in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade. The screening program is done annually in the primary grades so that all elementary students receive the vision detection screening.
The Lions SEE vision program focuses on screening young children up to six years old. The trained volunteers from the Avon Lions Club use a device called a Welch Allyn vision screener. The process is simple and non-intrusive. The Lion volunteer holds the vision screener approximately 36 inches from the child. A light flashes and the data is recorded.
Thank you to the Avon Lions Club for providing this important vision screening to our students.

ATTENTION: The Middle School Bingo Night scheduled for this Friday, March 7, has been postponed until Friday, March 28, 2025, (6p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) to allow our students to attend the Boys Varsity Basketball Sectional Championship game at the Blue Cross Arena.

York Elementary School kicked off Read Across America month with a salute to Dr. Seuss,, beloved for his whimsical, non-sensical, rhyming storybooks for children.
First graders made a Dr. Seuss hat! Thanks to Mrs. Streb, Ms. Routly, and Mrs. Rudgers.
Students discovered there is a masked reader who will be around this month! Who is the masked reader? Is it Fergus the fluent fox? Penny the problem causing Panda? Otis the observant owl? Sheila the short story shark?

Okay Kindergarteners...you had your fun day celebrating the 100th day of school. And you all did a great job understanding the number of 100 and even counting all the way to 100!
But we are 5th graders! We are the Kings and Queens of the castle! We celebrated 1,000 days of school!
Kindergarten - 180 days
1st grade - 180 days
2nd grade - 180 days
3rd grade - 180 days
4th grade - 180 days
5th grade - 100 days (to date) which totals 1,000 DAYS OF SCHOOL!!!

100 days of school! Kindergarten students celebrated the big day with a variety of activities. Who knew there were so many ways to learn about the number 100?
Counting to 100 is a milestone and our little Knights showed off their skills today!
Miss George, Miss Earle, and Mrs. Macauley sprinkled in some fun by inviting the students to dress like a 100-year old.

Ms. Andrzejczak's Advanced Photography students have been learning about food photography; focusing on lighting, perspective, and staging to create interesting photo ideas.
Students had 40 minutes to use a cupcake and any props or other materials in the classroom to create the best possible photo. The students were not allowed to edit or crop their photos.
Students got creative with lighting, aperture, and shutter speed (all skills they have learned in Photography 1 & 2) to build upon their ideas.
Staff voted for best photographic composition and most creative. Winners received a $5 Tim Hortons gift card.
Congratulations to winners Isabella Fischer for Best Photographic Composition and Lucas Wall for Most Creative Photography.

Storytelling around the campfire in kindergarten
What is more fun than telling stories around a campfire?
Miss Earle’s kindergarten students love story time.
First, they build the campfire…then, they share their great stories! What a fun time together to start the day.
