We are passing along information about the Family Fest at Al Lorenz Park in Mount Morris. The family event has many activities happening throughout the day on Saturday, June 1!

Fifth Graders Entertain the Audience on Steelpan drums York Central School Alumnus Ted Canning returned to his alma mater to instruct fifth grade students on the unique sound of the steelpan drum. Mr. Canning worked with the students for just five days, teaching them about the history of drums and how to play the steelpans. Remarkably, the students learned the instrument very well and performed two wonderful concerts - one in the afternoon for the elementary school, and one in the evening for their families and the community. This marked the fifteenth year that Mr. Canning has returned to York Elementary School to share his love and knowledge of steelpan drum with our students. We appreciate Mr. Canning’s devotion to YES.

We have two York athletes in the Track & Field State Qualifier on Saturday at Newark HS. Good luck to Isabel Laney (steeplechase) and Tessa Rodwell (triple jump). Let's Go Knights!

And they're off! The York Senior Class of 2024 left school this morning for a few days together in Ocean City, Maryland. Make lasting memories Knights!

National Technical Honor Society We are proud to announce that seven York High School students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society at the Mount Morris Charles G. May Center Career & Technical School. Congratulations to Heather Battles, Eli Cunningham, Anthony Cuozzo, Shelby Fowler, Ariel Rutherford, Xander Scutt, and Abby Treadwell (not pictured). These students met the rigorous criteria set forth by this national organization. The minimum grade point average for acceptance is a 3.0. Students are also selected based upon credit hours completed, attendance, volunteer service, and membership in other student organizations.

Setting New YCS Records and Sectional Champions! Congratulations to the York Golden Knights Boys and Girls Track & Field Teams! May 24, 2024 - Sectional Competition at Dundee CSD and the Golden Knights have two first place Champions - Seniors Kyan Tiede broke the YCS record in the 400 m run with a time of 51.06 and Kadin Akram with a high jump of 5' 8"! Senior Joe Bauer took second place and set a new school record in the triple jump with his distance of 43' 3", surpassing Track & Field Coach Mark Valentino's YCS record! Congratulations to Elementary School teacher Mrs. Stephanie Smith, Middle/High School teacher Mr. Byan Earsing, and Buildings & Grounds Dir. T.J. Gullo,. all recipients of the April 2024 Knights Employee Recognition! We appreciate all that you do for our students and staff! Each month, we ask our faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members to nominate a Golden Knight staff member who demonstrates one of the three YCS Vision qualities: Preparing, Challenging or Inspiring. Students, staff, families, and the community may nominate a staff member for Knights recognition. In a couple of weeks, we will be asking for nominations for the May-June Employee Recognition Award. Mr. Chatley's eighth grade classes have had two opportunities to look at aspects of military service. On May 17, the students welcomed U.S. Army Special Operations & Civil Affairs Captain Greg Johnson to their classroom. Captain Johnson, is a member of the 95th Civil Affairs Brigade - a Special Operations Airborne unit based out of Fort Liberty, North Carolina. He is also Mr. Chatley’s brother-in-law. Captain Johnson talked about his interest in the military from a young age and his involvement in the ROTC program through St. Bonaventure University. Students learned about his specialized training, and his humanitarian work with the Civil Affairs unit. Thank you to Captain Johnson for his service to our country and for taking time to talk about it with our students. In another exploration into military life, Mr. Chatley’s students took a trip down Rt. 63 to the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, N.Y. The students had studied World Wars I and II as well as the Korean War in class. Museum volunteers, many of whom have served our country with pride, led the students on an exploration of artifacts, historical documents, and of course authentic military vehicles and aircraft from past wars. The students expressed to Mr. Chatley their satisfaction with both of these experiences.
