Na'Lisa Hussar - High School Counselor "Na'Lisa goes quietly about her business of preparing our seniors for success after high school by helping them select colleges, trades and employment. She also assists the students and families with helping them secure financial aid and writes countless recommendation letters singing our kids' praises and emphasizing their talents.This is all in the midst of counseling kids through mental health issues and crises on a daily basis. YCS is fortunate to have her expertise and humility. I am lucky to be on the mental health dream team alongside her. " Nomination by the ES School Social Worker. Eighth Graders Arrive at Ellis Island Imagine it’s 1910; you and your family are in the bowels of a steamship bound for a better life in America. After several days on the rough waters of the Atlantic Ocean, you arrive at Ellis Island. The next chapter in your better life begins…not quite, you and your family must first pass the rigorous inspections at Ellis Island. Mr. Ben Chatley’s eighth grade Social Studies students participated in an Ellis Island reenactment to deepen their understanding of European immigration to the United States. The faculty played various roles in the simulation, including public health director, guards, and luggage inspector. Mr. Chatley played the role of the final decision-maker: Welcome to America or, please step over to the deportation line.

Congratulations to these York Golden Knights, selected to perform in the New York State School Music Association's Area All-State Festival. Haley Miller (Clarinet, Symphonic Band); Teagan Minor (Soprano, Mixed Choir); and Sydney Metz (Bass Clarinet, Symphony Orchestra). Lena Balisciano (not pictures) was selected as a Trumpet alternate The festival concert is at Newark High School on Saturday, November 16. Being selected to perform in the Area All-State Festival is one of the highest honors a student-musician can achieve in the state. Only a few schools had students selected from the Genesee Valley School Music Association to perform with the ensembles, made up of the top music students from around Zone 2. Zone 2 is one of the most competitive zones in New York and is comprised of Greater Rochester and the surrounding counties of Monroe, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, Ontario, Seneca, and Wayne. To be accepted into the group the students successfully auditioned at a Solo Festival in May and their scores secured them a place in the Festivals. To be accepted into Area All-State as a small school is a remarkable achievement that isn’t often done. Congratulations and great job to all.

The holidays are here. York Elementary School PTO is selling beautiful poinsettia plants in both small and large sizes. A small plant is $10 and a large one is $15. Orders will be received until November 22, 2024, so act now. The poinsettias will be available for pick up at the York Elementary School Cafeteria on December 6, from 4-6 p.m.

Congratulations to Senior James "Tyler" Logsdon, who earned the Student of the Month recognition at the Charles G. May Career & Technical Center in Mount Morris. Tyler studies Diesel Mechanics. Middle School Fun Night is Coming! Friday, November 15 in the high school gym, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Enter at the A wing entrance. $5 includes pizza and a drink. Additional snacks will be for sale. You must be passing (not on the ineligible list)

Today was Interim Middle/High School Principal Tim Hayes' s first day on campus at York School . He jumped right into meeting the students and staff, and of course one more important thing -checking out the lunch options in the cafeteria. Welcome to the Golden Knights family Mr. Hayes!
