GO KNIGHTS!!!

Ms. Andrzejczak's Advanced Photography students have been learning about food photography; focusing on lighting, perspective, and staging to create interesting photo ideas.
Students had 40 minutes to use a cupcake and any props or other materials in the classroom to create the best possible photo. The students were not allowed to edit or crop their photos.
Students got creative with lighting, aperture, and shutter speed (all skills they have learned in Photography 1 & 2) to build upon their ideas.
Staff voted for best photographic composition and most creative. Winners received a $5 Tim Hortons gift card.
Congratulations to winners Isabella Fischer for Best Photographic Composition and Lucas Wall for Most Creative Photography.

Storytelling around the campfire in kindergarten
What is more fun than telling stories around a campfire?
Miss Earle’s kindergarten students love story time.
First, they build the campfire…then, they share their great stories! What a fun time together to start the day.

Two York Knights are breaking barriers in the sport of Air Riflery. Juniors Myra Beardsley and Emily Harwood competed on February 22, 2025, at the Air Riflery League Championship at Perry High School, alongside several other individual shooters and teams.
Myra placed first as an individual in the three-position event, earning the league championship, and Emily placed third in the three-position event. Both girls will advance to the State Air Riflery Championship on March 8, 2025, in Orchard Park in Erie County. Perry School District’s team also placed first and will advance to the State Championship.
Myra and Emily have been shooting air rifles for a few years, within the 4-H program and individually in competitions. They regularly train and are dedicated to their sport.
Both girls describe the sport as methodical; more mental than physical, and requires persistence.
The York shooters are part of the Pavilion-York team.
The Golden Knights Family is so proud of you Myra and Emily and wish you the best at the State Championship.

Please join us in celebrating the Dec-Jan Golden Knights who were recognized for inspiring, preparing, and challenging our students every day!
We are proud to say these outstanding educators are part of the Golden Knights Family:
Elementary School teacher Lorrie Mallaber, M/H School Social Worker Alyssa Zona, and the YCS Music Department teachers Devin Vogel, Kathleen Dessert, Susan Daeffler, and Nicholas Nicassio.
Do you know a member of the Golden Knights family that deserves to be recognized?
We are accepting nominations for the February Knights recognition. It takes just a minute to fill out the nomination form by clicking this link: https://tinyurl.com/4tvwwzhs

And that's a wrap on February recess!
School resumes on Monday, February 23, 2025.
Looking forward to seeing everyone.
It's quarter 3! Let's do this!

In February our young Golden Knights really showed their character! The Golden Knights Elementary Student Recognition award gives us an opportunity to share with you the little positivity that we daily observe in our students.
Hats off to Lucas, Jasper, Charlotte, Catherine, Clara, Donovan, Brandon, and Nathan for being good examples of The Golden Knights Way!
When our students exhibit the Golden Knights Way by being kind to a classmate, helpful when someone needs a hand, respectful by allowing a classmate to go first, hardworking in the classroom, etc., it's worth shouting about!
It's the little things, you know?

The YCS family works together to ensure a positive school culture. No matter what their position is, each person plays a role in making our school a cheery place for students and staff.
One individual has been using her talents for many years to create positive bulletin boards in the middle/high school. Thelma Newcomb, an aide for study halls and in the cafeteria, takes great pride in designing the bulletin boards.
Mrs. Newcomb is very talented and often makes some of the decorations herself and always incorporates educational messages into her cheery designs.
We appreciate you, Mrs. Newcomb. Whether it’s your fall, winter, or spring designs, they uplift us every day!

Sending a hearty GOOD LUCK to our knights competing in the Riflery League Championship on Saturday, February 22, at Pavilion HS.

Spreading the Love in Middle School
The highest compliment is when someone speaks positively of you when your back is turned away from them.
Students in Mrs. Anne Dougal’s class spend time on Fridays building relationships through what is called a Community Circle.
During this time, a student sits with their back to the others in their classroom. Their classmates write affirmations about them on a poster. Afterward, everyone gets to read the comments shared. Community Circles will be held in Mrs. Dougal’s classroom over a few Fridays.
Here are some of the affirmations that students wrote about one another.
“You are hilarious, intelligent and kind.”
“You make York a better place.”
“You are nice to everyone.”
“You always make me laugh”
“You make everyone smile and brighten our days.”
“You make great jokes.”
“You are a good friend and always willing to make someone smile.”
“You put yourself behind others.”
“You always know how to make someone laugh and feel better.”

February is Heart Healthy Month and York Elementary School students are taking part in the Kids Heart Challenge!
The Kids Heart Challenge is a nationwide program organized by the American Heart Association to promote heart health and raise funds for research and education.
Students who register for the Kids Heart Challenge will collect donations and can earn prizes for completing the activities. Register at heart.org/Schools.
A representative from the American Heart Association was at YCS to kick off the activities. She presented the different activities that PE Teachers Whitney D’Archangelo, Alison Guesno, and Rob Peterson will focus on in class.
Visit the YCS website for more information and a list of online activities your kids can do at home! Click HERE: https://www.yorkcsd.org/article/2040834
